During my stay in the hospital they kept having code red tests due to the new ED extension and because JCAHO was coming to inspect.

If I recall correctly from when I worked here, they use the GE EST alarm system, not sure what siren/strobes they're using right now though.

Enjoy!

  • It was explained to us that the chime was used as it wouldn't be as much of a distraction for the doctors if they're trying to do an exam and listening to the thoracic cavity for breath and heart sounds, as well if a procedure was going on.

On the other hand it was to not startle patients as there are many people in there with various conditions that a loud noise like that could cause some major problems to their health/life.

  • @Gb755c Most hospitals have chimes because fire alarm horns could startle the doctors and could mess up what the doctors are doing.

  • @Gb755c hell of a lot more pleasant sounding than a horn or a siren, don't you think?

I think most places at least try to choose something that does the job, but isn't so loud or obnoxious if it has to keep going off for 5 or 10 minutes.

  • @frankalarms39 Most buildings are replacing their Simplex systems for EST3's. I got my Simplex 4100U IA panel from a friend who uninstalled it to replace it with and EST3 networking panel.

  • The chimes are for private mode applications, such as hospitals.
