Destroy smuggle cars 2

A total of P30 million worth of smuggled luxury cars were crushed by backhoes at the Subic Bay Freeport Thursday August 16.

A Lincoln Navigator, three BMW X5s, a Chevrolet Camper and a Mitsubishi GTO sports car were among the smuggled vehicles that were destroyed last Thursday. According to President Arroyo's aide, Cerge Remonde, the cars were destroyed to send a message and also because the common knowledge that if they auction those hot cars, the smugglers also win so it defeats their purpose to teach these smugglers a lesson.

There are still more than a hundred smuggled vehicles on the warehouse of the Subic port that may also be demolished but the decisions will still be up to the President. The head of the Subic Anti-Smuggling Task Force, Jose Calimlim admitted that since last week, his office had received several calls and proposals to donate the luxury vehicles to government agencies and even "flood victims."

The 18 vehicles destroyed were as follows: Lincoln Navigator (1), BMW X5 (3), Mitsubishi GTO (1), Chevrolet Starcraft (1), Toyota Lucida (1), BMW 735i (1), Toyota Emina (4), Hyundai Grandeur (2), Toyota Estima (1), Nissan Serena (1), Mitsubishi Pajero Junior (1) and Mitsubishi Cardina (1).
