clinching and taking down someone who is MUCH heavier and much taller than you is always difficult. Any suggestions on what is the best way to clinch and takedown someone who is much heavier and much taller than you ?
gonna assume you're talking no-gi! since with a gi, it's much less of an issue.
First thing has to be said, is remember that it's all about BALANCE. You don't have to pick someone up and slam them, or get a textbook double-leg and drive them to the floor.
To answer your q, I'd get double underHs and look for a trip.. or go for a judo throw:
I normally do that judo throw by getting hold of their right elbow with my left hand, turning my body and getting an underhook of their right arm with MY right arm.. and then while im turning + building momentum, i kick my leg across their lower thigh above the knee... while keeping a good grip of their elbow and either bicep or under the armpit w. the underhook...
If you keep driving, driving, driving him backwards (until he falls) (aim to take him down 3 people behind him), hopefully he will be so off-balance that he will be unable to strike powerfully enough.
I always put my head to his left side (as Machado does), so that if he strawls, I pivot counterclockwise around his left side, to take his back [Leo Vieira demonstrates this]
