The repeating pencil frame gives it away as artificial. Not that it matters, since the uploader never claimed it to be anything else. Still a cool look.

@thecheatisnotdead42 yeah, some people can't distinguish between hand drawn work and cheap filters.

Looks like some clever work in AE. Three or four frame loop of the charcoal effect blended on top, and masks for the backgrounds and color.

1st: its great

2nd: how did you do this, by printing out the frames and painting over them ? or some program ? it looks like a program because the lines of the frame are repeating. i think i would have used Studio Artist for it...

I'm having hard time trying to believe it's manually drawn. It looks like this has been done on a computer, but I may be wrong :P .
