Kanto Matsuri

The Kanto Matsuri in Akita City every summer. The main street in the city is packed with people as teams compete. The teams lift up HEAVY lattice of paper lanterns (which are supposed to represent a sheath of rice) lit by candles, which get higher as they keep adding sections to the bamboo pole. They use the heels of their hands, hips, some even their heads to balance the lanterns, while trying to get their lanterns as high as possible. Sometimes it gets so high that the pole snaps. In this video, one of the teams actually get caught in wires. Some teams even end up getting tangled with each other.
