Children work all over the world in different industries--not just mining. People all around the world are going to be exploited to supply rich countries with any raw material that the global market demands. There is no simple solution to these complex problems, it takes a concerted effort from not only the governments where these people live, but also the governments and consumers located in the rich industrialized nations. Ranting on youtube isn't an effective means to end this situation.

Tanzanite, the death gem. not for me.
-
I think you are among those who exploit this kids. Kwanza we ni mtanzania and do you really have a Heart?????

There are other factors involved - children are being exploited by unscrupulous owners of the mines, there are no Government controls and employment in the mines is a way to support themselves and numerous family relatives. TanzaniteOne Mine does not employ children and has ethical mining practices!!! Tanzanite is a huge foreign earner to Tanzania where it helps sustain the economy and maintains the infrastructure of Tanzania. Don't believe everything that you read!

rich snobbery people like this make me sick!!! has anyone on here watched the two part vidoe "Gem Slaves: Tanzanite's child labour"??? watch them and then tell me these stones are really worth it!! no child anywhere in the world should have to risk thier life just so some rich money hungry fucking yuppie and wear a pretty rock on thier finger!!

its their choice if they want to work or not. This isnt blood diamonds, only free lance people take the risk of going into the mines, no different if you and I were to go into the Rockies in search for gold.
Why don't you show the dangerous mines where children must climb 900 feet down a ladder to work all day for $1? That would make some people want to buy your jewelry because we all like to purchase products that are the results of hard labor.

well your right and wrong about that. yes they dont have to go to work in the mines, but on the other hand if they dont there isnt much else for them to do to help thier familys survive. yes its sad, but they are just trying to survive. but i still say that no child anywhere in the world should have to risk their life just for a rock!!
