The great Henry Rono had everything....he could front run as well as a Ron Clarke, surge like Kuts/Foster and had a great last lap (I saw him run in London once in a slower 5K race and he covered the last lap in 54 seconds).Sadly his best days didn't last too long and with Kenya's boycott of the '76 and '80 Olympics ,he didn't get the chance of greater exposure. Thankfully his best season,1978, when he famously broke four WR's in 81 days, did coincide with the Commonwealth Games, held in Edmonton,Canada.Whether or not he was the greatest Kenyan runner ever is a matter of opinion, but for myself at least,he was ,and always will be,the most exciting middle distance runner I have ever seen. He's had a fair share of problems since those days but if you're out there somewhere,Henry, thanks, and keep on truckin'!
Fantastic--thanks so much for posting this entire race!
