Hoochie Coochie Man - The Big Pink Band & Zhin @ BBB Band 40th Year Anniversary (8Feb09)

Electric blues band and a blues harp. (Part 1 of 3) (in HD)

Note: Pay attention to the audience right as the video starts, they are laughing at the name "Hoochie Coochie Man" because they have never heard of the song or the name... Checkout the reaction when the first riff kicks in. ;)

The BBB Band 40th Anniversary event was a private one and was organized by veteran Malaysian blues band, The Brown Black Blues Band and the good folks that run their jam studio at Hartamas on the 8th of February 2009.

They invited several bands to perform for that night and we were very fortunate to be one of them! The guests were served good food while they enjoyed live music throughout the night. Quite an event really!

I think it's also important to mention that BBB actually runs a nice jam studio of their own and we regularly practice there. If I'm not mistaken every band that night also usually practice at BBB studio. (wish I got paid to mention this. haha!)

Initially we were told to prepare only 3 songs and on the last day we were told that we could only do 2 due to the schedule running late. We were cool with it because it's such an honor to us to play at an event like this!

But after the 2nd song... something totally unexpected happens!

I hope you enjoy watching this performance as much as I had fun making a total goof out of myself on stage. ;)

ZHIN, @1:41 after the words "Hoochie Coochie man" what three notes are you playing? Are you also using a D harp in 2nd position?

@meblaw1 Yep it's a D harp in 2nd and I think the notes are 5 draw, 4 draw, 4 draw bend, 4 draw.

Enough to know what key/position on the right harp when the song key is given to me. Some basic theory of course. I can't name notes and all that though. I don't remember notes by names. Just the sounds. I am more biased towards using my ears. I play what I hear in my head. I imitate what I hear as well obviously. I listen to a lot of guitar players to give me ideas. Thanks for asking!

Nope not really. I mean I did try a few in the past but it was never a durable thing. Like one of those "hey lets try that" moments and then you give up after 3 days... I barely played or learned anything useful enough to help me with the harp if that's what you're asking. I do love singing when I'm alone though which could have had some influence. I'm going to incorporate that into my actual playing in time.
