If you haven't used raspberry pi before, then download noobs (go through all the instructions and come back to this point when you are done)

Format your SD card

Download the image file

Write the image file to the card

Plug card into Pi, and boot.

IF you are lucky, and the pi boots up on the monitor, plug a keyboard in and run the following command to get the local IP address.

To get a prompt either by launching the terminal or CTRL+ALT+F1, CTRL+ALT+F2, etc (F7 should bring back the desktop).

Once in the terminal:

ifconfig
