Our team attempts to canyon the teacups near the end of April under high water conditions. Under these circumstances, this adventure is EXTREMELY dangerous. The likelihood of uncontrollably going over some of the waterfalls is pretty high and in some cases could be unavoidable. There are some spots which must be carefully avoided as a swimmer would likely be trapped by re-circulating water, or held by obstructions in the water. The canyon was attempted with very good knowledge of the canyon from lower water level descents (Kevin was one of original canyoneers who opened the canyon), and we relied heavily on both Evan and Kevin's extensive white water kayaking backgrounds. We did not enter certain dangerous areas at all, and used river safety ropes in some others. The ability to characterize white water river movements will be essential for any team attempting this canyon under similar conditions. Finally, the Kern River crossing at the take out will require strong swift water river crossing skills from the whole team.
Où êtes-vous? C'est magnifique...
