  • yeah , spiritual and religious are flip sides of the same coin. You can't really have one without the other.

  • Absolutely - That however will not stop them from defending the position.

  • If you're not religious, SMARTRecovery (it's dotorg) and SOS are far better choices.

If Bill W's Higher Power worked, why did he die of his addiction to cigarettes?

  • I agree that it is a religion and is pretty easy to spot that. This rubbishes there whole philosophy because they claim honesty is the key to overcome alcoholism. However, spiritual is different than religion, for me a spiritual act could be something as simple as giving someone a smile or helping a stranger that has tripped over. (and not seeking praise after) Spirituality has no guide lines, discipline's, rules or 'suggestions', like a religion. Its just revealing the caring, human side.

  • i don't trust any organization that isn't open to the media....so we in fact CAN'T check their effectiveness.....but i would assume it's pretty low...since the minute you step in their you're forced and not just given a supportive crowd...if the media wants to come up and interview me about addiction...go ahead...i don't see what they're so afraid of....any person i've known to have success in AA is ready and willing to talk and talk and talk and talk...usually out their ass

  • known sucsess in A.A. is the reason for court mandated meetings A.A. doesnt endorse or appose. its the judge who made that decision. the only requirement for A.A. membership is a desire to stop drinking. and crashing cars DUI S public drunk ETC ETC

  • mage -- more from the 'real speedy':

go drink, end up in a hospital then in jail then dead (hopefully a prolonged & painful one).

but, really, i love you. like all the other sick & suffering types.

serenity, humility, & all the rest,

    speedy

  • mage - sorry to fall back on my penchant for intellectualization, but seriously ... go fuck yourself.

    find my face at donewithaa[dot]wordpress[dot}com.

    and go fuck yourself again.

  • mage - as they say in schoolyards (at least here in the US), "i'm a rubberband & you're glue. anything you say bounces off me & sticks to you."

if your idea of 'spirituality' encompasses engaging in personal sniping contests here on YT (e.g., this thread), i'm quite at peace with where i'm at ... in an epistemological sense.

now, go do some 'service' or something & leave the big kids alone to our 'angry', 'non-spiritual' discourse.
