DURHAM -- A 15-year old Whitby girl is dead after being ejected from a car during an accident early Friday.
Police say the car, containing four teenaged passengers, was northbound on Lakeridge Road near Hwy. 47 just after midnight when the 18-year old driver lost control.
The girl, who was sitting in the back seat of the 1998 Sunfire, was ejected as the car rolled into a ditch. Police say she was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident.
The car landed on top of the girl, pinning her to the ground. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The three other occupants -- two males and a female -- were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Police say all four teenagers are Whitby residents.
The road was closed and traffic was re-directed while evidence was gathered.
Police say alcohol was not a factor in the accident and the road and weather conditions were favourable at the time.
