First Launched (Site): 1996
AOL is most commonly known as for it's online internet service. Short for America Online, it used to be the rage in the early 90s. Until Broadband became popular, and there were more services to choose from. AOL was toppling here and there. Losing hundreds to thousands of subscribers the more the years carried on, but still maintains a good sum of it's crowd.
AOL was critically claimed to be bloatware, as well as clampware. As it was difficult to get rid of from your PC and hard to get out of it's service. It is now free for Broadband users, but dial-up subscribers will have to continue to pay monthly fees for AOL's service. Not much can be said for AOL's site, as it's just like Yahoo's, MSN's, and the list goes on.
