My version of the 1999 MRJ Wantage Tramway project. This O gauge loco is scratchbuilt and is my first using DCC and South West Digital ESU Loksound decoder.
Hi John, and thank-you for the comment. I had the MRJ castigs for 10 years before building what is now 'Persephone'. Although 'Jane' or 'Shannon' is unique, I wanted to make the Wantage Tramway star my own hence the creation of Persephone. The red is actually precision paint's BR Mk1 coach maroon, althoug I regret not sticking with GW green now. I have a short clip of 'Jane' in steam at Shildon 150 in 1975 - I think the only colour film of her in steam.
Nice work! I have nearly built #7 in 7mm from the Slaters kit with some changes. I have had several attempts at getting the castings for #5 but just missed out and they are very hard to find. I've moved on a bit now to 16mm and 7/8" live steam but the WTC has a special place for me - the red was a bit of a shock but she looks well!
Have you seen Shannon at Didcot? I had a quiet half hour with her about 10 years back - shoved away in a corner at the back. Be great to see her in steam one day.
As far as I'm aware the Wantage Tramway loco isn't available RTR in any scale. Persephone was scratch built using MRJ casting sets. Paul Berntsen produced a project in 4mm of the Manning Wardle No7 at Wantage which appeared in the MRJ in the early - mid 90s. I made one in EM in 1994. I have a set of castings for that which is a project for my retirement. If you feel inclined, contact the MRJ and see if they can help with the casting sets and make your own!
Thank-you for the kind comments about 'Persephone'. You know your Wantage Tramway history! You are absolutely right, 'Persephone' is Shannon (or Jane) in another guise. I wanted to use my loco in a fictitious location, hence Persephone rather than Shannon or Jane. The maroon is genuine BR Maroon 'though.... It was a tight fit getting the decoder to fit in the well tank - getting a seuthe unit to fit in the chimney would be an interesting challenge.

I think pershephone suits this engine well, as does the red livery. You don't know if this engine is avaliable in OO.

It's a wonderful model of a wonderful engine, i always thought that it was called shannon and painted green.
You'v obviously spent a lot of time istalling the sounds, it would be much improved by the addition of a smoke generator.
