The Union Pacific's famous 844 steam locomotive, built in 1944, is the longest-running steam train in America. It still runs on UP's mainlines today. July 20, 2008 taking 750 rail fans from Denver to the biggest rodeo in the world, Cheyenne Frontier Days in Wyoming. This train is so popular that traffic jams form along the tracks when it runs, as people "chase the train." But the History Channel has a Helicopter that paces the train from as low as 20 feet! Watch as these guys try to harvest the corn while they get the shot of 844 hiballing through the great plains, Watch the History Channel

  • They should somehow add a turbo charger to that. How cool would that be.

  • @ehle The diesel is there for dynamic braking and as a back up....

  • Awesome shot with helicopter and ole 844! We live on the UP mainline in Ne. Love to see her go by.

  • Almost all of today's machines have no soul (cars, trains, planes).Very nice video.Greeting from Serbia.

  • WOW AMAZING

  • Black smoke! Steam shooting from the whistle! Rods flashing! Drivers spinning, and the train hauling ass! Life is good. This is the railroad equivalent of a Bach contata.

  • @ehle The Diesel is along as a backup in case of a breakdown. I assure you #844 was the one doing the work and making time.
