A piece by J.S Bach. The end sounds choppy because of audio input problems.

  • This is taken from Edwin London's concept of "Aleatoric" or 'chance' composition. It utilizes a strict set of measures taken out of context from the piece and each individual singer is allowed (if done correctly) to sing at his/her own pace, within the given structure of measures, ending at a selected cadence point. It is my opinion that the hand gestures take away from the overall effect...which is often described as being not dissimilar to an orchestral warm-up.

  • This song is absolutely other worldly. I swear at 1:40 you feel your soul start to depart from your body.

  • There's something about the conductor walking off that will always chill me to the bone. It's almost as if God were conducting someones life throughout and then at the very end just steps off and lets the person die. It's so symbolic and just feels right. When the harmony finally comes it's such a relief. Beautiful.

  • **look for** stupid new phone

  • Look the version by the Meistersingers... Its really really good

  • @DJPhear I'm glad to hear it's not just me. This is the most incredibly moving piece. I tried to tell a friend about it yesterday, and couldn't even finish my description for the uncontrollable bawling.

  • yes the hand motion r written in the score

  • are the hand motions written into the score?

  • This is my favorite vocal piece. And I had the fortunate pleasure of being able to be in an AMAZING choral group and perform this.

I cry EVERY TIME I hear this piece... There are absolutely no words I can use to describe what it was like the first time we sang this... It was on par with the births of my daughters, if that says anything....

  • Bach created a sound of the journey from life into death.

I get shivers whenever I hear this, and what I wouldn't give to be a part of a performance!

When I watched a performance of this, half of the singers had tears streaming down their faces by the end, and the audience was left crying and awestricken. This is truly a sound that must be heard in person.

If you listen closely, you can hear bells ringing :D Awesome harmonics!

  • it was a little alto heavy throughout, (which is a total shocker btw) but still- incredible
