@pcx34 according to me (i'm French), "C'est John" is the perfect translation of "It's/That's/This is John" ; and "il y a John" is "There is John". "Il y a John" is more used to say there is John, he's present. Otherwise, "C'est John" is more general, it's qualifying a person too.

So, in the video, "Il y a le président" is indeed saying that the president is here, in the scene. But the translation "it's the president" = "il y a le président" is more literary, more adapted.
