Looks like a JAP 5. I have one too. I also have the 55 which is the 2 cylinder version of this engine.

Nice project! A few years ago I saw a historical race (F1 and other categories) with race cars powered by huge 1.5 liter 1 cylinder(!!) JAP engines! Fantastic sound. These engines are very reliable and not too difficult to service. Keep the faith...your patience and efforts will be rewarded !!!

careful, wouldn't want you to lose an arm. you need 2 arms to cut open compressors and stuff :D

holllly moly that's got a hell of a lot of compression! I hope the ants didn't ruin the magneto!

Nah, mag's 100% now!
Starting a high compression engine with a crank handle will be fun :D

That is one monster of an engine! ,good luck with getting her running. Any idea what you might use it for?

I amy not be keeping this one here, I have a good friend who needs one for an indoor pumping unit, it may find a home there!.
but I'll maintain and re-aquire it when he's done with it.

The bore and stroke is about the same as the Howard Jr, I wish it had the same compression!
