In November 2006, Sega released a game for GBA called "Sonic Genesis", which was advertised as a "port" of "Sonic the Hedgehog" for Sega Genesis/Megadrive, the first Sonic game ever. This game was not actually a "port", but a total rewrite, and a very poor one at that. Trying to point out specifics would be a waste of time, as absolutely everything about this game was done improperly, and in no way does it play like the original
It had been rumored that Sega had lost the source codes to their original Sonic games several years ago, but one of the people responsible for the cellphone port has recently disclosed that the Japan versions are in-fact being translated from the original code to J2ME, while that code is in-turn being given to American developers for porting to American phones, as well as for the recent ipod release. What happened to this version, then? Why are the actual developers hiding their names and only presenting those of the original Sonic 1 development staff?
