Ernie Smith & Big Youth Honored @ Reggae Culture Salute 2010

Reggae Culture Salute 2010, held at Nazareth High School Performance Center, Brooklyn, New York, October 30, 2010, in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Coronation of HIM Emperor Haile Selassie, was excellent. The event was dubbed 'Salute to the Foundation', and what a salute it was. The event featured Big Youth and Ernie Smith, who were both recipients of honors and awards from NY Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke and NY State Governor David Patterson. Ernie Smith also received the prestigious Pinnacle Award, from the Coalition To Preserve Reggae music. There were tributes to Reggae Icons Sugar Minott and Gregory Isaacs. DJs Tony Tuff, Mikey Jarrett, and Nahki (from Japan) delivered tributes to Sugar Minott, while a video of one of Gregory Isaacs' last performances, from Brooklyn Music Festival was shown, courtesy of BonJamTV (us).

Every performance was special and beautifully delivered. There were performances by Anthem Band, with Mystic Bowie and saxophonist Douglas Guthrie. Anthem Band and saxophonist Douglas Guthrie went on to back Ernie Smith and Big Youth. There was a very special performance, Nyahbinghi Drumming and Chanting, by Ancient Vibrations. Of course, musical selections were delivered throughout the night by Bobby Channel One and Sir Tommy's HiFi.
