@SupaNami Who said what? I don't recall stating anything about how dogs feel... obviously they have feelings, but I fail to see what that has to do with this issue. Also, I'm not sure what you mean, "if Gay people can do it"? Do what?
Honestly, I am not certain of the exact reasons why people want to get married, but I am sure that the tax breaks afforded to married couples is not the "only" reason! (Good luck trying to claim your dogs; you should give them a wedding while you're at it.)

@dehteg Property tax is exemptable by any organization that uses it for non-profit organizations. However non-profits don't get out of sales tax except in a select few states (and hey you can take that up with them). Now churches and christian organizations do a lot of good for people. Some churches don't give as much money cause they can't, but thing is if you want to get rid of organizations that do some good without the government mediating through taxes then thats your opinion.
-
@dehteg So your saying every non-profit organization including non-religious charities should pay taxes? Not all non-profit organizations are religious groups. Granted some are, but unless they are actually a church these organizations don't serve that function. The politicians at the time just decided churches should be under that catagory and it does make sense. Most churches don't make any sort of profit from the donations they get. Whatever's left over from expenses goes somewhere.

@101Snipeshot If you own a piece of land you should be paying property tax, if you are buying something that isn't for a public use you should pay a sales tax
-
@101Snipeshot Special privileges for special interest groups. I'm not loaded down with money either but I still have to pay for things I don't use like schools for other peoples children. If there really is supposed to be a separation of church and state why have we made exceptions for tax code based entirely on groups belonging to a religious doctrine?
-
@dehteg Churches aren't loaded down with money and a lot of small churches you see probably don't make enough to be even worth the money of taxing them. Yes even the effort to tax the public takes money because of the ever so hated IRS.
-
@dehteg Tax exemption status for churches falls under tax exemption status for non-profit organizations. So to do as you suggest churches would have to redefined in tax code as their own catagory and you can imagine the wasted time it would take to do such a thing especially since it could be better sent fixing more important problems that we have as of late. Also churches There maybe, but honestly the ones that don't donate to anything barely have enough to keep off the ground.

@dehteg " If they are not paying taxes then they are not paying for any roads, police, or other public services that my taxes are covering."
The People who go to the churches that have jobs do pay for those services
-
@SupaNami They should be required to apply for tax exemption status on the basis of their charity and not just because they are a church. There are plenty of churches that don't do any charitable work. If they are not paying taxes then they are not paying for any roads, police, or other public services that my taxes are covering.

@GuitarosaurusRex Either marriage is religious and the state shouldn't have anything to do with it, or, its not religious and allowing homosexuals to legally marry won't affect churches.
@Zigz15 First of all, gay people are not fighting for the right to be married in a Church! They're fighting for the right to be legally married and to be afforded equal protection under the laws which apply to any other married couple. Hence, a church cannot be forced to marry any couple (hetero or homo), Churches have always performed marriage ceremonies at their own discresion, and can continue to do so, without threat of legal repercussions (Google "State actor doctrine").
