For years I believed McLaughlin was the greatest guitarist in the world. I still hold him right up there, at the very, very top with Holdsworth, Shawn Lane, Bireli Lagrene, and George Benson. I'm talking of those few guitarists who have achieved total technical mastery of the instrument. Some stuff he did in his younger days is unbelievable, and I still consider him probably the most versatile guitarist ever, able to play so many genres, acoustic, electric and synth.

John McLaughlin is probably the most important post 1950 guitarist.

Guys arguing about guitar players are missing what's really happening here I think... ;- from the jazz/blues perspective and such.... ::

@ariellofellow oops I clicked the up thumb instead of the down thumb. Metheny is a great guitarist and a very good composer but he is not up there with Mclaughlin, nor are Allan Holdsworth, Shawn Lane (RIP) and a load of other hi-speed guitarists. Sorry, but that's a reality, not just my or anyone else's opinion.

@drunkgirlsrock why probably??? of course he is!!!

@OneBigRetard dude, sorry I assumed your comment related to this killer trio - now I see you were replying to the one about Lagrene etc, which I thought was BS. My apologies :)
-
Ah I see now. You think Lagrene and Anderson improvise with unfamiliar forms? Ok, find me some I'd love to hear it.

I know not which comment you reply to, but seeing as you have offered nothing but a personal insult I won't lose sleep over it.

@kundalini76 You call me on a comment 3 years old and tell ME to get a life? Anyway for someone from England, you sure don't understand English very well. Try reading a post before you rap it. I have been a JM fan since way before you were born. Now as you say in golly old England, PISS OFF!
Does anyone know if this show is for sale on DVD?
Thanks !
