There was a 1989 Vauxhall advert based on the song and artist mentioned featuring a female driver. The Kleenex advert looks as though it was made in the early 1990s.

That's the Dave font for Vauxhall Nova, isn't it? Of course that ad (using the Ritchie Valens version of "La Bamba" I think) predated the film and Los Lobos version.
