Derry has had a handful of seizures in the 5 months we've had her. They appear to be stress-induced. I was able to record one for the vet. He says it's fairly mild by seizure standards, and we should not use meds unless the seizures get much worse. She seems to shake it off pretty quickly.

  • I have an 8 year old Welsh who just started having these exact same seizures this year. Any advice?

  • @jrands38 - Potassium Bromide has worked wonders for Derry (who is now 7). Her seizures have gone from weekly to monthly, and they are much less severe.

    Good luck !

  • Steve. I realize that you posted this video a few years back, but am hoping to get an update. I have a female Welsh Terrier, Gavi, and she just turned 4 yrs. old. In the last 5 wks. she has had 6 seizures that start out very similarly to your Derry's. Her's progress into grand mal unfortunately. Would love any info you could possibly give. I went to Derry's URL, and made Gavi one, and attempting to join the Welsh Terrier Web Ring. Thank you so much in advance! Bec & Trent

  • @trentmcelroy - Derry still has seizures, and we did put her on potassium bromide last year to help control them. Her seizures have lessened since then, both in frequency and intensity. Derry is 7 now.

Have you had Gavi seen by a professional? We got a lot of different opinions and advice from different vets. We waited a while before deciding on medication. But it sounds like Gavi's seizures are more severe.

    I wish you well.

  • @jrands38 maybe he has a neve problome or maybe if it get's to bad you sould just put him/her down :/ well that it

  • @Brooklynbz1 touching the dog will only make is worse. the best thing to do for a dog (or any animal/person) during a seizure is to leave them alone and make sure there is nothing around them that they can hurt themselves on. so these "rude ass ppl" are actually doing the right thing.

  • It's make me sad that a dog can have it to:( Is she still alive afther three years ago ?

  • Best luck for your dog :)

  • @Brooklynbz1 People need to under stand you cant HELP DOGS WHEN THEY ARE HAVING SEIZURES. It stops in few minutes anyways.
