Benny Parsons takes the lead late and leads a total of 4 laps to win the 1975 Daytona 500. The race marked the end of the "big block era" in NASCAR as all of the cars taking the green flag were running the same smaller sized engines, eliminating the need for restrictor plates that were used in the 1971-1974 races. Many of the top contenders had trouble throughout the race, Petty with overheating problems and Buddy Baker with a blown engine. With just 3 laps remaining, David Pearson's spin down the back stretch leaves the door open for Benny Parson to capture the biggest victory of his career.
Time of race: 3:15:15
Average Speed: 153.649 mph
Pole Speed: 185.827 mph
Cautions: 3 for 21 laps
Margin of Victory: 1 lap +
Attendance: 110,000
Purse: $43,905

Now THOSE are stock cars.....I have stopped watching NASCAR, it's not any fun anymore. As a kid I remember the sound of these cars as they stood on it. The cars today sound nothing like the big V8's of the past with no restrictor plate, ect. Todays lil' kiddies are no fun to watch either. Thanks for posting some good racing of the past.

What happened in the Pearson spin was he was lapping Cale Yarborough and Richie Panch; Cale inexplicably spun out David.

The turn announcers are Barney Hall 1-2, Jack Arute on the backstretch, Dave Despain in 3-4.

@Reddaytonadog Indeed. Waltrip took over the DiGard Chevy in August 1975 at Talladega; Yates came on board after the '76 Talladega 500 when the original engines builders "Stump" Davis and Keith Harlan were fired. Yates joined Marion Newman, who'd joined earlier that season from Bud Moore.

@mark4tk Probably, but it was a DiGard Racing entry before Darrell Waltrip took over later in the year and had Robert Yates power before Yates built Ford powerd engines for Ranier-Lundy before owning his own team.
