  • You're totally right. I didn't know much about classical music 10 months ago, and I was just starting to play this piece. Now that I've learned it, sounds considerably different than this. No, it wouldn't mean too much to me just to copy someone's performance. Great advice!!

  • I personally wouldn't suggest trying to emulate anybody. Certainly use rubato, but use your own rubato, where you feel it's necessary. The song is written by Satie, but make it your own.

  • great! i love this song. i first heard it on tv and i started searching for the title. fortunately my piano teacher knew it and thats why i can play it now :P but not as half as good, as it sounds here...

  • The extended pauses create a "mystic" feeling to the music, and I feel that that is the hardest thing to produce on the piano. We're so used to following the natural tempo and pace of the song throughout the music, but these little things deepen the songs in such a way that it almost gives the sound waves substance and form, very much like how this particular music video tries to exemplify.

  • I have this exact song on my i-Pod. It is a very nice rendition of the Gymnopedie No. 1, and I am trying to emulate it as best as I can on the piano.
