Motherbrain (AKA Marc Osborn) doing an impromtu jam starting with a ringtone from his cell phone. No canned loops (except the ringtone of course), just improvised live looping in Ableton Live from his home studio in Brooklyn, NY. The Live template starts COMPLETELY blank.

Using:
Ableton live 7
Steinberg Hypersonic for Bass, Rhodes, Drums, and Pad
Ableton 'Sampler' for blips and stabs (custom patches)
Native Instruments Pro-53 for lead synth
CamelSpace for processing
Ableton Live's included effects 'AutoFilter' and 'FilterDelay'
MAudio Keystation 88es
Presonus Firepod (audio interface)
Zoom H4 (to record the output- it's clearly clipping. I cranked the main volume without thinking)
custom painted qwerty keyboard

yes there are 3 seconds or so in the begining edited out while I adjusted the loop borders for the ringtone, then 4 bars in the middle of the jam and 2 or so bars near the end.

  • lovely man

what rhodes plug in/vst do you use?

    sounds sweet!

  • @sabotage1111 :

thanks for the kind word mate.

It's a rhodes sound from the VSTi "Hypersonic" by Steinberg/Wizoo. The plugin is decent while also having low cpu/disk overhead.

  • What keyboard is that? (computer keyboard, not musical ;D)

  • They Keyboard is a run of the mill microsoft keyboard i picked up at staples for 20 bucks. I then popped the keys of and spay painted them to fit my template. Funny story: I had to buy 2 of these keyboards because the first time I put the spray painted keys in the oven to help them dry/cure and they melted! big duh.

  • Hey I really appreciated this video, the lead synth you were "jerking off" with was excellent. I am a little curious as to how you set everything up in ableton to get it to fast record like that, easy set up of loops and such. I have a kaosillator and a piano that i would like to be able to quick loop both simultaniously. Do you have any insight on how i could do that? Any feedback would be excellent man and keep "jerking off" that was awesome :)
