Speeches from: Boris Johnson (London Mayor), Rio Ferdinand (ManU/Eng footballer), Helen Mirren (actress), The Simpsons (dissing Iceland!!!), Some woman activist, Ricky Gervais (actor), Christine Ohuruogu (athletic champion), Sir Michael Cain. Sponsored by LG.

This series of videos shows our journey from Embankment station, and our walk towards the London Eye.
As expected, it was a pleasant enough experience, given the mass of people.

Expect to see (not necessarily in this order):
A decent view of the countdown and fireworks that ushered in 2009
Singing of, Auld Lang Syne
A guy crowd surfing!!!
A cute little girl on someone's shoulders in the foreground to the London Eye and projection on the Shell building.
A video message from various people being projected on the Shell building.
Lots of singing and dancing in the street.

This year was a bit different. A bunch of mates went towards the London Eye to watch the firework display with anticipation and welcome in the New Year.

I have to take my hat off to the police, london transport and all other organisers who really did a great job with the crowds. Thankfully, it made up for the shite fireworks display - which to be fair, was expected. It has been a diabolical financial year for us all in the UK. Im grateful there even was fireworks!
I wouldnt have been that surprised if the whole thing was cancelled.
Anyways, im glad I did this again, it's been far too long since I last spent NYE on the Embankment.

Happy New Year for 2009 !

  • Wasn't the transport a nightmare with all those people? I do love to see Boris, if only for his consistently dishevelled appearance. How ironic it is he quotes from Apocalypse Now :D. I watch the display every year from my TV, and your video confirmed that it looks better on screen, sorry to say mate. I am gutted to say I haven't been to see the display in person, despite being a born and bred Londoner! :(

    Thanks for the post.

  • i went to see it aswell
