This is a sort of montage for the French film, The Beat that my Heart Skipped. ***It contains spoilers*** The movie stars Romain Duris as Tom, an agressive man in the "real estate" business who yearns to follow in the footsteps of his dead mother and play the piano. The video (or at least the middle part) is meant to show his two lives back-to-back (thus all the split screens, etc.). I've never used these effects before, but I guess they turned out pretty well. Comments are very appreciated. And I'm sorry for the lack of subtitles... I'll probably add annotations later. The last five minutes is actually the very end of the movie when Tom attacks his father's killer.

  • The last scene of the film (which is partly shown here), is heartbreaking and so clever and sensitive. I understood it as him (Roman Doris in a briliiant performance) looking at his friend playing and knowing and feeling how his life circumstances were too strong for him to overcome, and how he could never be really free of them to be able to be on that stage, and music stayed this pure, sublime thing that beyond his reach. or something like that...

  • The actress (Pham Linh Dan) is actually speaking Vietnamese. She's telling him to "tho" - which means, to "breathe".
