THIS VIDEO WAS MADE USING TOOLS SUCH AS SAVESTATE AND FRAME ADVANCE. NO CHEAT CODES WERE USED IN THIS VIDEO. FOR MORE INFORMATION, VISIT http://tasvideos.org/WelcomeToTASVideos.html

This run is operating under the following 100% definition:
- Must complete 5-B (Secret Sentinel)
- Must collect all 8 jigsaw pieces
- Must collect all 144 individual gobbos (no duplication of gobbos in order to skip others)
- Does not need to collect objects that are not saved after leaving a level (this includes crystals, silver keys, gold keys, color crystals, and extra lives)

For more information on gobbo duplication and why it was banned, check out this post:

There are a few tricks involved in this run, but none is so obvious as hovering. There are many ways to hover, but I'll just present the simplest and most useful description here:
1) Short jump (hold X for 3 or less frames)
2) At some time during the short jump, tail attack
3) At frame 11 (after first pressing the jump button), hold X (a shorter hover can also be done by holding X on frame 9 or 10)
This is possible in real time, although it can be hard to get consistent, full-length hovers.

Too lazy to explain other tricks used.

As the name suggests, this is my final WIP. There is still a fair bit to go in the game, but I'm not encoding anything else until the final release. Some stats:
Time so far - 0:53:42 (193,364 frames at 60 fps)
Rerecords used so far - 126,312

  • the tempo at which you got through the first bonus area in this video made me chuckle. Ghostie never stood a chance. Also, I didn't know cactus Jack was that glitchy, that was very interesting to see.

I'm typing this comment while watching, which may show, but how did you get 3-S2 to start when entering 4-2, and what exactly are the benefits to that? I guess I'll see how that influences your run through the fourth world whenever you upload your next video, but this was kinda confusing alright.

  • @ilovemadnesscombat There are no benefits, I just wanted to introduce a "wtf" moment to mess with the viewer (this is a TAS after all). After you select a stage, while the game is fading out, you can still control things. The game doesn't load a level until after the fadeout, so I just pressed left twice when the screen was mostly dark to switch to 3-S2.

  • @RingRush Ah yes, I've seen an exploit like that before in other games too, it allowed me to play the last level of SSX Tricky on the GBA even though it was locked. You did get a whole lot of time during that fade out, though, so it wasn't really hard to discover (still it took me until the second last level to find out).
