This Anthem is Chicago's best kept secret. Cookie penned the original lyrics for this Anthem while teaching in the Chicago Public Schools during the mayoral administration of Jane Byrne. Shortly after meeting her arranger and music producer, King, he added this contemporary pop music. Then Cookie's company, Estarion, decided to have song recorded in 1994. There was a local media blitz (TV, radio, print) from that time thru 1997. There is also a choral version on sheet music, which was performed by the famed Chicago Children's Choir citywide. The Mayor and City Council adopted a Resolution in '96 to make this Anthem official but hasn't finalized procedure. Cookie's attempts to have this Anthem used by the Chicago 2016 delegation at the IOC presentation fell on deaf ears, nevertheless, her response is a positive one. After Chicago's failed bid, she put together this video as a reminder that Chicago should still hold its head high and remember that it indeed is yet a City to be hailed and celebrated, thus she eagerly awaits the Special Events Committee of the City Council to finish its mission regarding this song via an Ordinance to make it the Official City Anthem. The vocal artist is Jeff Felton. CDBaby.com has the MP3 (vocal and instrumental) of this Anthem available for download purchase as well as other songs written by Cookie.
