I've not watch all your videos yet, but when you founded your second city I noticed you told the other leader that you were sorry. In my experience, and from much that I have read, to keep good diplomacy, even if you are going to go to war, its never good to lie. I.e. say that you weren't sorry, as you are not.

@PvtFreddy This is my take on *general* diplomacy. If you receive a prompt as such, and you apologize or indicate that you won't do it again, and you break your promise. This indicates to all AI's that you are a "backstabber" and will ultimately hurt your global diplomacy. The "go fuck yourself" option will hurt your relation with that AI, but ONLY that AI. So either way you get a -minus diplo modifier, but you have the option of saving face to the rest of the AI's. Strategies ensue.

True, yes, but over time, if there is any pickings from Civ 4 on Diplomacy, then as time goes by the relationship should heal. IMO, the diplomacy break and code in Civ 5 is a big reason why I won't give this a 9/10 vote.

I would be surprised if relations didn't heal, but on Diety or Immortal in Civ 4 AND 5, diplo is so touchy that sneezing in the wrong direction will line your borders with Monty's Jaguars GG.i.e. Tread *very* carefully and beckon to their every whim. Diplomacy better in 4 since we had metrics to gauge the diplomatic climate (+3 we love our brothers of the faith!). Hopefully they patch a metric or somebody makes a PIG style mod so we don't just have a licked-finger to the diplomatic wind.

@PvtFreddy in this instance, I am "sorry," and won't settle any other cities near his borders. If I did, he would almost certainly DoW me. Later on in this video series I'll show an example of breaking my promise when I line my units at his borders, tell him I'm just passing through, and proceed to remove his spleen on the next turn. It hurts me diplomatically but it ensures he doesn't get a free turn of attacks against my unit line. It's a strategic tradeoff, but should be weighed carefully
