"Soul Survivor" - A personal encounter with psychiatry by Mary & Jim Maddock
Mary was a nun for seven years. On leaving the convent in 1972, within two years she had met and married Jim. Within a further two years she found herself in Sarsfield Psychiatric Hospital, two days after the birth of her daughter. Heavily medicated and subjected to many sessions of electro-convulsive therapy, it was the beginning of a nightmare

This video IS inspiring. However, I was left wondering what exactly put Mary in the hospital in the first place. Did she suffer from sleep deprivation, guilt over leaving the sisterhood, or what? Two decades of drugs and shock treatment is hard to imagine.

Mary and Jim are such an inspiring couple. This video made me feel very emotional. Well done, Marion, it has a powerful message from a beautiful, special woman. I am so proud of you, Mary. What you have been through and what you are doing with your experience is an inspiration to us all. You tell it like it is, Mary, you are not afraid to. I love that about you, it is empowering. Much love, Grainne. Xxx
