80's WBCN TV Spot - WBCN was the center around which the Boston rock music universe turned. I put this commercial together for the station in the early 80's - The slides were shot and posted at Video One when it was on Trowbridge St. in Cambridge before I had the digital picture effects. Designed together with manager Dave Bieber and music director Oedipus, the :30 version of this commercial ran for several years.

  • @KiddJetix: Peter Wolf

  • I believe it was Steve Lisberger of Lisberger-Ladd who was the effects guy - never met, but knew he moved out to LA to do Tron (which I liked a lot then) but the movie didn't make the numbers and that was all i heard ....

re: the 'BCN spot, i pulled this off of my demo reel - the missing 13 seconds are with quick shots of more rockers - it should be around, but don't hold your breath, there's a lot of tapes in line . . . . .

  • i might have it somewhere, but right now too many old tapes to deal with -

    keep tuned - it'll show up . . . thanks for watching !

  • When BCN was a good station. Before it became some alternative Grunge crap station in the 90's.

  • First of all I have to say thank you for creating this classic piece of Boston culture. I am so psyched that the full clip exists somewhere and that eventually it will see the light of day. On the flip, I think I am gonna hold my breath anyway - the missing parts make the audio a bit disjointed and hard to listen to, plus I loved to try and ID all the bands in the quick cuts. Can't wait to see/hear it all in its entirety again someday, and I know I'm not alone!

  • This sucks balls for some reason youtube will not let me post the link here, but if you search on Lisberger Studio Intro you will get the clip I'm talking about. Sorry about being such a nerd about all this, but I hope you understand.

  • Ok, I found this clip of an "electronic warrior" guy under Lisberger Studios (the guys that ended up doing TRON). I'm positive it was used for the WCOZ commercial I talked about below. Do you remember this?

  • Also, do you have the WCOZ tv commercial that had a hevay-metal cartoon of a neon man throwing two glowing discs? I was watching the DVD of the original TRON the other day (supplemental material) and it turns out that commercial was done by the guys that did TRON, before TRON. When I saw the clip it absolutely wired me up - I hadn't seen that commercial in 30 years! And it ends (I believe) with the tag line "Kick-Ass Rock n Roll", which really f'in sums it all up.

  • Awesome, please put it up if you can - every rocker in Boston from that era grew up with that commercial. It would mean a lot to me to be able to see that moment from my youth again.

  • Is there any place I can find the 30 second version of this?
