  • Yes, I am a saxophone player, not professionally, but I've been known to gig around SF. Just for fun though.

  • @peedub are you a musician?

  • It's good that you make sure you do those things, but I'm guessing that most of these kids are just really starting to really appreciate jazz. The more they listen and practice, the better they will be. It just takes time. That's all I'm saying. Young musicians needs encourage and constructive criticism, not someone telling they're not very good. I'm sure even you, at some point, as we all have, "didn't sound very good," but I would surmise that you've gotten better, right. That's my point.

  • i am a high school player, and yes im obviously not "killin" but these are things that my combo and i make sure we do. it should be second nature. u dont have to be a prodigy...

  • Damn dude! They're in high school and they are learning! I'm guessing you weren't killin' in high school. These things take time, unless you a prodigy. Quit being so damned critical.

  • meh, i've seen better high school jazz combo's. the rhythm section did a nice job, but u guys kinda listed lazily through the melody. i mean, where's the articulation and dynamic contrast? and the solo's weren't very developed at all, piano had some nice chord structuring and extensions but it wasn't well structured, horn solos just not very good. u guys need work, and then u might sound great. mediocre at best as of now though... keep workin
