More people were taken hostage at sea in 2010, than in any other year on record. That's according to research by the International Maritime Bureau a global shipping security body. They say Pirates captured nearly 1,200 seafarers last year -- the majority off the coast of Somalia. The IMB's global Piracy report paints a gloomy picture of security on the high seas -- particularly off Somalia. 53 ships were hijacked last year, with eight sailors killed and 11 hundred and 81 captured. 92 % of incidents happened off the Somali coast. 29 vessels and 699 crew remain in captivity there.
