I think the terminator doesn't have to worry about people being afraid, people would be too busy admiring its classy ass swagger as it mows down droves of people.

@Bustermachine I agree that asimo is quite inefficiently built considering all the investment. I understand what you mean and agree. I just wanted to mention that the video is no longer just a few kids playing in the sand... It's a real solution and that's quite exciting compared to asimo and qrio.
Maybe they'll combine honda's efforts in human interaction with these legs... who knows.

@SVKmellow I do believe there are videos of QRIO operating on gravel, and I very much doubt that either machine could walk at all if they were simply using a preprogrammed series of motions. Even on a flat surface machine's such as ASIMO and QRIO must constantly correct for imperfections in the surface, slipping, etc. Additionally ASIMO has demonstrated the capability to "Run" in this case defined as having both feet off the ground at once. This is an inherently unstable process.

@SVKmellow No, you aren't understanding what I'm saying. I'm comparing QRIO to ASIMO here, not boston dynamics robots. In terms of humanoid robots who use batteries, ASIMO sucks. QRIO is semi-autonomous. It can balance on a board that's constantly changing angle, reacting to each change. ASIMO's code is too inefficient and poorly written to calculate a reaction fast enough and can barely manage stairs.

@KakkoiiBaka I understand what you mean but still... QRIO's mobility isn't autonomous (and neither is ASIMOS). They just simply shift the center of balance the same way in every step and rely on a perfect surface. The movement is just preprogrammed and would not function on uneven ground.

@KakkoiiBaka I'd not give QRIO too much credit... The balancing thing is a simple gyro stunt and you can even see that the algorhytm is very crude, relies on small steps (not derivations) and would not withstand practical application (the robot jerks while balancing itself out). You need at least Linear Diferential Equations to controll movement and balance. The whole thing is just funny... it's like kids playing in the sand. But QRIO is really fast even compared to ASIMO.

@SVKmellow Well yeah when you're comparing boston dynamics robots. But it's not an excuse for ASIMO's poor balance in general on geometrically perfect terrain, like stairs and ramps. There's videos of it falling down just trying to go up a few stairs. Where as QRIO which also runs on a battery, can be seen balancing on a surfboard type thing that is constantly changing from angle to angle. And is in the record books as the first humanoid robot to achieve a full run (both feet off the ground.)

@KakkoiiBaka I think the batteries are a factor... because if you want them to last as long as possible you can't let them dissapitate too fast so that they will last longer and therefore you can't use too much power in short bursts like this robot does. Also... I've NEVER seen QRIO or ASIMO get kicked and balace itself out. ASIMO can be pushed (really slowly). Also the big dog does ICE, UNEVEN TERRAIN, SNOW...
now imagine that thing with a body, arms, an artificial brain, and some weapons.
