His release is only so high because of the way that he shoots. His form is very unlike any other in the NBA and requires that high release in order to reach the basket and not be a line drive ( like Kobe or MJ's shot ). Notice that Redd doesn't jump too high on his shot, therefore he is making up for it somewhat by shooting with that high release.

I'm left handed, and it's pretty safe to say that I'll being to an American college in a few yrs as I'm Australian. And my stroke is exactly like a right handed person. I've been to so many shooting clinics to improve my form and it's paid off. The only reason most left handed players shots looked weird is because they take what the coach has said, demonstrated and talked about as a right hander and they (left handers) put it in to a left handed stroke.
