What do you need to know to successfully eat low carb for life?

Dr Stephen Phinney, MD, PhD, knows more about this than almost anybody. He has researched adaptation to very low carb diets (and exercise) for a long time. Here he shares this knowledge, as well as insights from traditional cultures who never ever ate a lot of carbs.

Dr Phinney's book "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living":

  • Excellent video. The interviewer interrupts the speaker way too much though. I would never want to have a conversation with him.

  • "...I did make a point..."

Which was? You tried to claim inuit lifespan was related to their diet, in-spite of NO evidence for your claim, and literally dozens of scientific studies that refute it.

    ... was that your point?

  • @LCHFinCanadaYes I did make a point(which You seem to totally miss or misinterpret either through arrogance or plainly & simply illogical blindness)For some odd reason you seem to like repeating what I have said!So perhaps this will help.I believe,"It's nonsensical conclusions from cherry-picked bad science.Only the ignorant would believe what you say".Oh I know you will reply with some other comment of such & such as matter of fact, but you know what you can have the last word BYE

  • @cheryl7davis "...So you think living until you are 45 OR 48 years is GOOD! I DO NOT THINK SO..."

No, and I never said that. You seem confused.

"...But a GREAT factor is that in 1832 a"cholera epidemic"swept through these people.."

So what? The average Canadian's lifespan didn't hit 60 until the 1920's... nearly 100 years later.

What are you trying to say? You really do seem confused by science.

    Do you HAVE a point?

  • Dear LCHFinCanada,

So you think living until you are 45 OR 48 years is GOOD! I DO NOT THINK SO.

Quote "Interesting the average lifespan in 1831 in Canada for all documented peoples was 45 for males & 48 for females."

"The rest of Canadians" as you say were made up of Europeans,English- Irish-60%, French & even NZ!

But a GREAT factor is that in 1832 a"cholera epidemic"swept through these people & those still arriving had what they term as "ship fever"(Typhus)Nothing to do with diet

  • @cheryl7davis "...Between 1822 to 1836 ONLY 25% of the Inuit population lived past 60! (Canadian Inuit)"

Interesting... the average lifespan in 1831 in Canada for all documented peoples was 45 for males and 48 for females.

As such, prior to western influence the inuit were living LONGER lives than the rest of Canadians.

But you think their traditional diet is bad? Your own argument has proven you incorrect...

  • @cheryl7davis "...You "Do Not" see "All" the facts presented..."

Respectfully, you haven't presented ANY facts. You've expressed an opinion that science shows is incorrect.

I cannot understand what it is you think I fail to see. You've made illogical arguments based on what is obviously a lack-of-understanding of anthropology, physiology, diet/nutrition and causes of mortality.

If you have any facts that you can present, then do so. Otherwise, yes you're wasting your time.

  • Dear LCHFinCanada , Some times people cannot see the wood for the trees! Science..science...science...science. What science Sir? For all you feel you have presented is other "scientists" observations/studies! You "Do Not" see "All" the facts presented. To carry on our 'conversation' on this matter is pointless & frankly wasting my time Sir. I have more important & pressing demands on my time than to remain here with your rhetoric arguments. Goodbye...Sir...Goodbye

  • @cheryl7davis "...I think perhaps you mean "know"..."

Yes, I made the mistake of sending this from my phone, not as easy to type or edit before I submit, sorry.

"...I believe only time will tell which of us is correct..."

Well, on the subject of Inuit lifespan being linked to diet - science shows which one of us is correct, if you care to read the research on Inuit mortality issues. Again, I invite you to share any science that refutes what I've said, so far you haven't.

  • Dear LCHFinCanada.I think perhaps you mean "know" nothing!May be I do not have any letters after my name (that would make me an 'expert' in my field!) but never the less I have the where with all to read, research, discern & determine facts for myself without the aid of someone telling me what I should believe & shouldn't believe.I am sorry that you seem unable to grasp, nor understand what I have said.I believe only time will tell which of us is correct. To that end I wish you well.
