Raise the Minimum wage AND AND AND AND.............
make sure the prices of everything and the cost of living go down or at least stay the same! Thats the ONLY way it would help. Raising the minimum wage a certain amount all while the prices of everything go up even more WONT HELP! Numbers are just a number! $30 an hour means nothing once snickers bars cost $50 each!
even ten dollars an hour is below poverty line...so don't even brag about seven buck senator. not too smart. there's too many dumb politicians on the right and left...you're not giving much direction and you're just as clueless as others washington. silly old men need to be replaced by smarter and perhaps younger folks who UNDERSTAND reality.
Having a low minimum wage or none at all would have an effect of creating jobs for people who wouldn't other wise be able to find one.
Also companies can charge less on products so the standard of living could go down. You could also get compitition that would make everyone better off.
You would be paying less so the low wage would work its self out, look at how much stuff cost in the 1950's when the minimum wage was only 1 dollar an hour, And look at prices now.
Gracer: Odd that you should say I don't understand economics. My post was clear, & indisputable. The whole point of the law (min wage) is to prevent exploitation of the poor by the rich—which history shows always happens, as greed is always alive & well. YOUR post is confusing. Wanna clarify? Pls explain how competitors paying high wages could take business away from companies paying exploitatively low wages that enable them to offer cheaper prices. Cheap prices are loved more than God.
no, companies wont be able to lower wages like that because their competitors would be taking the surplus and investing it in higher cost materials (better products for the same price) and in turn taking business away from them. (and its not like they can just fix prices between themselves because that is illegal) its called market equilibrium. you don't understand economics
Ophachew, your reasoning is faulty. We all know big business would pay ten cents/hour for labor if there weren't laws to prohibit it. Greed will always exploit others. And people would work for that pittance in order to survive. So we have a law against such exploitation. It's called the Minimum Wage. Just like picking up after one's dog, if decency and courtesy and fairness is not offered willingly, then it must be mandated. The minimum wage prevents the exploitation that greed would foster.
@nate749
They should only pay more to workers IF they deserve it.
There are a lot of shitty working out there.
