Oh well...better to NOT keep the original words. It isn't that hard to make a switch-a-rue...and to the contrary, it was meant as disrespect because black americans were disrespected - OPENLY & BLUNTLY w/out any consequence because blatant racism was acceptable. is it still? hmmmm komarno2/Gemini730 do you both have white sheets & hoods hanging in your closets? WOW
" a darkie`s" born was included in the original lyrics. Nelson Eddy and Lawrence Tibbet used "darkie" in their beautiful renditions of this song. No disrespect was meant-just different times. Eddy and Tibbet were not racist. They had deep respect for negro spirtuals and included numerous of these beautiful songs in their repertoir. Lorraine
Could Ihave heard correctly ",....a "darkie's" born, but he's no good nohow w/c a song? I was enjoying this until I heard that phrase,.....not "favoriting this one as a result. Sad,......... going to look up the lyrics because no one else uses that phrase when singing this,.. going to check out Frank Sinatra's now and if he does that, I'm through,.... sigh,....
Congratulations on your good musical taste, especially for such a young guy, Swooning Crooner, which, surprise surprise, is similar to mine. You might take note of the other comment I made regarding the authenticity of "Bing Crosby - 'Without a Song.' "
Ive seen Billy Eckstine do a performence of this and I must say I enjoy Crosby's better!

That has to be the longest musical introduction I've ever heard. The orchestration seems to be at odds with Crosby's vocal.

Sinatra substituted " A man is born" even in his recording of 1940 with Tommy Dorsey.

Yeah, this is a very early Bing. He had a relatively high pitched voice in his early years which changed a lot after some vocal chord difficulties.

it is questionable.
