We first went out to check on Kitten on December 18, 2009. While she was very thin, the sheriff's deputy and GBHS cruelty investigator believed she was not in critical condition and would do a follow-up as is their custom. Sadly, we got the call on December 20, 2009 stating that Kitten had collapsed. She was so weak that she could not stand. One local veterinarian even recommended that she be euthanized on the spot and believed she would die if moved to the GBHS Rescue Barn. Deputy Sloan and the GBHS team believed that she deserved a second chance and that she had the will to live. With much difficulty they picked her up and moved her into the trailer and got her safely to the GBHS Rescue Barn. For the next 21 days she was supported by a harness that was suspended by a front-loader. She was able to move about for a little while each day, but if left too long she would collapse and would not be able to stand on her own. With lots of TLC Kitten made steady progress and by the end of January 2010 already looked like a different horse. Just 10 months later, Kitten now looks fabulous, is able to be ridden, and has a home to call her own in Georgia where she will have a little girl to love on her. Kitten's story of survival makes all the hard work put into the GBHS Rescue Barn more than worth it. To learn more about the GBHS Rescue Barn visit our website at http://gbhsrescuebarn.org.
