First Severe Thunderstorm of 2009 for Western Massachusetts occured on May 9 at 2000. The majority of the line went just to the north. The video doesnt truly show how dark it got. Max tops for this storm reached 30,000 ft. There was a report of a motorized hang glider crash on Mount Tom which is just to the north of this location in Holyoke and Easthampton, MA. Video was shot by me in Westfield, MA at Barnes Municipal Airport Observation Deck. I was using a FLIP mini video camera. In the background you can hear the Western Mass SKYWARN amatuer radio network...these are the people who provide the NWS with realtime weather conditions that they use to issue Severe Warnings.

  • oo i thought this was in westfield NEWJERSEY

  • <---- Lived in Westfield Massachusetts for a while, Nice video, beautiful storm, but no where near as EPIC as in the plains.. oh..how I LOVE severe weather ;-).... I will have to keep the "area" you shot this in, in mind... What an epic viewing spot... and I have set a goal to catch a tornado in Massachusetts :-)

  • Cool. I live in Agawam! I remember getting a bit of that storm while I was at work.

  • @ahn4694 haha damn thats like something you would expect from the movie twister

  • @kylex102 that happened a few hundred yards/half mile or soemthing from my house... after the storm, all i heard was a police siren and then i went to check it out and i saw a broken barn in the middle of the road. lol

  • i agree...cameras never give justice to just how bad a thunderstorm really looks in person

  • I'm glad you love them..good for you... BTW..if you love such authentic, unedited audio tapes of Tstorms...you'd love to see the ones I have in my bedroom..I got over 1000 tapes of audiotaped-Tstorms...going way back to 4/27/73...long before you were even born.... I'm soohhh addicted into audio-videotaping Tstorms....((hence my YouTube screen-name))...Maybe you'd like to see some of my videos..I got a huge one from 7/28/89on YouTube.....tons of loud thunder in that one~~!
