A career high for Mattingly in Homeruns for a season was 35, in 1985. Honestly that isnt too bad. But werent these Yankees "fans" wearing a lighter colored blue hat, with an Orange "NY" that was more curved than the White "NY" ? And werent they filling up a place in Queens instead of the Bronx ? No wonder why the Yankees fans worship this guy ! They were too busy rooting for another team they missed on their own teams history for a decade.

And wait ? Youre telling me the Yankees started baseball's greatest and most respected dynasty even a hater like me gave credit too and loved to watch play the year after he retired ? Thats odd. I thought this guy should be a Hall of Famer ? Wait, baseball reference compares his stats the same as to who....Cecil Cooper ? Whos Cecil Cooper ? Dont you mean Cecil Fielder ? He was pretty good ! No youre actually talking about Cecil Cooper ? Oh ok. Pete Rose and McGwire should go in before this guy.

Why do these biased Yankees fans worship this dude ?! Most overrated athlete in all sports. His career began as a member of the most successfull baseball franchise ever in 1982 and ended in 1995. How many WS rings did he get.....what was that Zero ? Ok, some legends dont have WS rings thats fine. Wait how many playoff trips did his team make with him as captain....im sorry is that one ? Wait they didnt win that series too ?

the yankee captain won an mvp (runner up the following year to clemens), won 9 gold gloves, 6 time allstar, he led the league in doubles 3 years in a row, led the league in hits twice and so on. yea so he doesnt have the career numbers that most hof'ers possess, but don mattingly is a household name. he meant more than career numbers. he deserves a spot in the hall. anyone who doesnt think so is just another yankee hating douchebag.

donnie baseball was very special to his fans. but he is NOT a hall of fame player. 2 many injuries, 2 many bad/down years. but in the 80's he kept hope alive. the fact his 23 is retired at the stadium is good enough for me. he was my idol growing up. he will always hold a special place in my heart and a lot of other hearts. and thats all that counts.

I think Don deserves to be in the HOF he dominated the 80's and TBH had he used roids like the other big names have he might of been able to hang around more LOL I'll always remain pissed George never brought in better talent when Don was playing, Don was a lot of people idol trust me man IMO Don is why their are sports cards show his rookies cards were some of the first to be sought after and changed that whole market place of collecting, also a great 1st basemen better over big Mac anyday

not even close to the best ever, not even HOF worthy. He retired too soon at 34 and did so to preserve a lifetime 300 avg cause the last 6 year he played he only batted 300 once, so if he kept going his avg would be well below 300. He avg 142 hits a year his last 6 years, assuming he could have kept up that pace for 5 more years he still wouldn't have had 3k hits. Nice player I'd take him anytime but if he played for the Royals HOF wouldn't even be talked about.
