Tom Cole hosted what was originally "The Bowling Bank" in Baltimore in 1967,which became "Duckpins And Dollars" the following year. The show ran five nights a week, until 1971 when it was taken national as "Bowling For Dollars". Contestants selected a random "pin pal" from cards sent in by viewers, and bowled one regulation frame of duckpins. The accumulated jackpot was split accordingly between the bowlers and the pin pals at home. Tom also hosted a weekday morning bowling program "Sparetime",which consisted of bowlers from women's duckpin leagues, sponsored by local bowling alleys. Tom is credited with sending Duckpins and Dollars national, and presumably still holds the record for the highest rated locally produced show in Baltimore.

  • Awesome! Lee George's Mom's (Ms. Gladys) mother! I see the same twinkle in her eyes that Ms. Gladys had! Great bowler - that was a huge amount of money for 1967! I have very fond memories of her daughter (Ms. Gladys). She was something else!!

  • Why are the pins bigger than standard duckpins?

  • Balloons coming down for a duckpin strike!
