Kural A R Rahman at one point did speak of mixing Thirukural in a manner that reintroduces the divine Tamil text to modern day youth. Rahman has used the hymns of Thirukural and layered it soft English spoken words by Blaaze re-iterating the attribute of respect over fame and money. Kural has the artist recite the 97th chapter of Thirukural Maanam ( Tamil for respect/Dignity) where it says - Honor and Respect supersedes any material gain. The song is very very deep and insightful. Do find more on this track at the end of this post.

Kural - 967
Better 'twere said, 'He's perished!' than to gain
The means to live, following in foeman's train.
Meaning :It is better for a man to be said of him that he died in his usual state than that he eked out his life by following those who disgraced him.

Kural - 968
When high estate has lost its pride of honour meet,
Is life, that nurses this poor flesh, as nectar sweet?
Meaning : For the high-born to keep their body in life when their honour is gone will certainly not prove a remedy against death. .

Kural - 969
Like the wild ox that, of its tuft bereft, will pine away,
Are those who, of their honour shorn, will quit the light of day.
Meaning :Those who give up (their) life when (their) honour is at stake are like the yark which kills itself at the loss of (even one of) its hairs.
Kural - 97th Chapter in English:
Who, when dishonour comes, refuse to live, their honoured memory
Will live in worship and applause of all the world for aye!
Meaning : The world will (always) praise and adore the fame of the honourable who would rather die than suffer indignity.

  • thiruvalluvar is tamil god, who is guru of tamilans, please don't compare him to bramin, christ, jain. thiruvalluvar is the ocean, whereas religions/other guru are just pond. Vazhga Tamizh Vazhga Valamudan. thiruvalluvar is one of the siddha. then vallalar, then vethathiri maharishi. please respect tamil culture, never say thiruvalluvar as just saint/poet.

use your common sense before you comment

    thiruvalluvar is against racism/blind faith

according to him GOD is wisdom

  • @xXBlackxRebelXx As for the similarities you are talking about ... there has been always been an exchange of ideas between the Aryan and the Dravidian civilizations, even Tolkappiyam(the earliest extant of Tamil literature) has exchange words from Sanskrit and i bet Sanskrit will have thousands of words from Tamil, Presence of such ideas doesn't make Thirukkural it Aryan or less Dravdian in any way!

  • Haunting.. Mesmerizing...Fabulous...

    The Magic of music composition

  • It is a shame that we are still talking about when it has reached the world and who has written it. Instead, talk about its valuableness when you understand it.

  • Thirrukural doesn't is not any religious specific. Its secular and shows the purity of dravidian culture before getting courrupted by "Aryan thoery of invasion" with cultural castism and submission with racist religion

  • @xXBlackxRebelXx Amen! :)

  • @eeevilmunky yes its Indian 100% and a jewel of knowledge tamils take pride in.

  • @xXBlackxRebelXx @xXBlackxRebelXx I dont understand what makes you think that i have not read Thirukkural, Anyway Sir, you have all the right to believe in what you want to believe in.

By the way the portrait of Thiruvalluvar is an artists depiction of him, there is no record of his picture or painting, nobody actually knows how he looked like, but have accepted the portrait of him as they need a visual medium ... much like that of Jesus christ!

  • u r soo corrrect, velu abandoend not only u lot on mulathive beach but also his own mother!..now she is happy that sinhalses looking after her on govenment hospital,

what happend to our thileepan memorieal hospital?..aioo my money!

  • @eeevilmunky I dont think you even read thirukkural. thirukurral has got so much sanskrit influence and similarities with the vedas, its not even a matter of question. valluvar usually refers to priests during ancient times. his mother might have been a dalit but its very likely that his father was a brahmin. also please look at the portrayal, he has a long narrow face and long thin nose. which dalit or even average tamil looks like that? only brahmins.
