In September of 2008, my daughter was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia. This is a type of cancer. She's doing very well now and will be finished with her treatment in a few months. The first 9 months of treatment were the most aggressive. It was during that time that she was always feeling very sick, she lost her hair and was in a constant gloomy state of mind. This was the complete opposite of her cheerful and playful self. She was only 4 years old at the time so you can imagine how difficult it was to try to explain to her why she had to go through the seemingly endless trips to the hospital and endure all of their invasive procedures. As many little girls, she loved the Disney Princesses and Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus). She'd spend countless hours in front of a mirror, combing her hair, playing dress up and trying to imitate her idols. When the side effects of the chemo and steroids started taking their toll, she didn't see the beautiful princess that she once was, no matter how much my wife and I tried to convince her otherwise.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is an AMAZING organization that reaches out to children, from all over the world, and tries to make their most desired wish come true. In my daughter's case, it was difficult to decide whether she should wish to meet Miley or the princesses but the temptation of Disney World was just too irresistible, so the Make-A-Wish Foundation organized the trip of a lifetime to Disney World. They gave her a memory that she will never forget and I saw my daughter smiling again for the first time in months. They gave her back a piece of her childhood that would have otherwise been lost to illness and depression. I can't begin to express how grateful I am to everyone that made that happen. These images and videos are highlights of that trip. I hope you enjoy them but most of all, I hope for a cure. Thank you.
This video is the second in the series of our trip. It's of us first arriving to Magic Kingdom. You might notice that at some points my daughter looks a little upset. How can that be, right? I mean, we're in Disney World, the happiest place on earth. That's because she hadn't seen the princesses yet. You'll see her smiling a lot more in the next video.
Thanks for sharing this with us! I hope you guys had a magical time over there and I hope that your daughter is doing well now.
