Camp Blessing is in north-eastern Afghanistan. It sits in a valley up in the mountains just a couple hours walk from the Pakistan border. Its little more than a few village homes made of stone and some plywood buildings fortified with barbed wire and sand bags. The flight in over the mountains was stunning. "What a beautiful country" I thought. "If not for the war." Everywhere you looked, bullet holes and bomb craters, reminded you that this country hadn't seen peace in a long long time.
Man its funny you say that. I was with KBR CJOA as an electrician @ blessing from sept-dec2005. I remember getting attacked a lot at night and the two earthquakes, seeing a lot of medevacs etc. & thats just inside the wire!!! But the Marines there were great and were real people. Made me feel good to try to make their life on the camp a little better. The ASF guys were great too. At times I DO MISS THAT PLACE! Things were real there in a sick sort of way. Thanks

I was stationed there January 2005. It sure looks like it has grown a bit bigger. Our chow hall had hand built bench tables. The cook grilled our meat on the outdoor open flame grill. There were 15 Marines including myself living in a hooch made frome rocks. One day it rained really hard and long , that it soaked through the seems were the rocks were cemented/mudded together. I sure do miss that place and the Marines I was stationed there with.

that camp is named after Jay Blessing, an armorer for 2nd ranger battalion, 75th ranger regiment, who was killed by and IED while operating out of that camp when it was still a very small and remote FOB in 2003.
