If you're going to talk about Virtual Reality films, you should also know about "Brainstorm." Directed by Douglas Trumbull in 1883. "The 13th Floor" didn't show up until 1999. Both great films; both SERIOUSLY overlooked.

"he, what did you do to the universe"?
"turned it off" :D:D

great movie!

Ya sort of.. reality is subjective, so it's up to you just how it might happen.. but it can't be "created", it will evolve, like all of this did. Like we did. I meant that we can create a set of conditions within a device or whatever you'd like that will allow for consciousness to develop and evolve, but no no we can't create it. Check out tom campbell, he has a theory of everything that is highly interesting

@probablechoices So, if we develop a quantum computer with which we will be able to simulate consciousness (create a.i.). If we simulate the "big bang", the consciousness won`t know we`re here. Wait, what? If we can create a simulated consciousness, we surely don`t need to simulate the "big bang", we can just limit certain parts of the consciousness`s mind so that it won`t know it`s world is not real.

It seems highly probable that we will have and be using a quantum computer that will be able to simulate consciousness with. It will evolve within the machine. All of this(the "objective" universe") evolved from a very large and yet infinitesimally small explosion 16 billion years ago. When we simulate it, it won't know we're here. Why is the speed of light a constant again?

I think I crapped my pants

Man this is like sims 30 for ps12

I think that trailer might have spoiled the movie...
There's some philosophical theorem that goes something like "we have the following universe of possibilities:
1)Intelligent beings will never seek to make simulated universes
2)It is impossible to create simulated Universes
3)If both 1 & 2 fail to be true, we are almost certainly living in a simulated Universe
." (The idea being that simulated Universes will far out number the "actual" one).

This film is based on the novel Simularon-3, which was written by Daniel F. Galouye and published in1964, nearly a decade before Bostrom was even born and four years prior to PKD's *Do Androids ...* It was first made into the tv film WORLD ON A WIRE by Fassbinder and released in 1973. Essentially, it is the first film about virtual reality, prefiguring TRON, Blade Runner, The Matrix, etc. Although the term "replicant" is not used, conceptually, the simulated figures in the film are just that.
