this is bullshit, there are tons of articles about how this is wrong... (I'm actually working on a presentation debunking this myth)
-
this theory was debunked a long time ago, it has nothing to do with Coriolis. The perturbations and turbulences within the water creating residual angular momentum, and the minor imperfections in the container are what determines the direction of drainage.

@tampicokeed MAN WHAT A HALF WIT THIS CLOWN IS...

@olvordahl Of course u and ur professor are right! But any object moving in ANY direction (in th N hemi) will veer 2 th right--can u visualize why. Also, do u visualize how this veering to th right causes storm systems (and yes even large controlled drain experiments) to go left (CCW)??

@NibiruClose Sorry buddy, we crossed the galactc equater going N 3 million yr ago, but so what--crossing it will not affect earth in any way. And last time i looked earth was turnng countr clockwise (when viewd fr above th N pole)Gee,dude, the sun does set in the west!! U need 2 do some studyng 2 learn why this causes a movng object 2 veer to th right, and (counter intuitivly?)why this causes hurricans (and yes even drains in a very controlled test much further N) to rotate counterclockwise

@NibiruClose so the explination my oceanography professor gave to me during lecture a few weeks ago is wrong? the earth spins at a lower eastward velocity at higher latitudes than near the equatorial region. As a result any object shot north from the lower latitudes will undergo a rightward deflection. but this only occurs at great distances, not in a plastic bowl.
-
@40ks the water does not rotate in drains straight down
-
@MrBojangles983 yes but also because we were south of the Milky Way galaxy then on December 11th 2012 we crossed the equatorial line of the galaxy and the effect causes the Southern hemisphere of the earth to sping clockwise, a first, so it is the galaxy causing it. Yahweh
no experiment that can demonstrate coriolis effect would ever work this close to equator. The effect is asronomically small. Have you ever heard of a foucalt pendulum 30 feet from the equator??? --would take millions of years to rotate once. For all practicl purposes there is no coriolis effect 30 feet or 30 miles or 300 miles from the equator.

@NibiruClose Wellyur correct on that one anyhow--anyone who believes that on dec 11
the earth reversd its spin IS a clown! And i distinctly remember that on dec 10 the sun set in the west, and amazingly it did that last evening too. lol. Any 8 yr old can visualize that if th sun sets in th west, th urth is turning CCW (as viewd fr above th N pole). And how did u determine that on dec 11 the solar sys crossed th "gal equatr"?? Got 2 cut back on thos funny cigars fella
